Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Lena Bergan were held Monday, August 1 at 10 a.m. at Norway Lutheran Church, St.Olaf, Iowa. Rev. William Palmquist officiated. Interment was in the Norway Luther Cemetery. Muehlethaler Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were David Butikofer, Brian Thompson, Kevin Amundson, Terry Butikofer, Rodney Butikofer, and John Rosenbaum.
Lena Sophia, daughter of Tov and Gurina (Houg) Kjosa, was born February 26, 1903 in Wagner Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She died at the home of her daughter, Deloris Olson at Gunder on Saturday, July 30, 1988.
She received her education in the Vellersven Country School and was baptized and confirmed at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, Iowa. Her parent's home was the setting for her marriage to Willie Bergan on October 22, 1924. The couple had 3 daughters. They farmed in the Gunder area and later moved to Gunder. Her husband, Willie died on May 22, 1975 and in that same year Lena sold her home and went to live with her daughter Deloris.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Grace Anderson; 2 brothers, Kenneth and Joe Kjosa, a son-in-law Olvin Olson and a grandson, Bradley Olson.
Surviving are her 3 daughters: Deloris Olson, Gunder, Iowa, Lavanda, Mrs. Floyd Thompson, Wadena, Iowa, and Donna, Mrs. John Butikofer, Elgin, Iowa; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; a sister, Stella, Mrs. Glenn Larson, Elkader, Iowa and a brother Louis Kjosa, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.
