Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 16 at St.Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, Iowa for Phyllis LaVern Schute. Father Paul Peters, Father Donald Moran, Monona, Iowa and Father Thomas Schwinn, West Union, Iowa officiated and burial followed in Mt.Olivet Catholic Church, Guttenberg, Iowa. Tuecke-Allen Funeral Home, Guttenberg was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were David Schute, East Dubuque, Iowa, Tom Marshall,Minneapolis, Minnesota, Tim Pfile, Galena, Illinois, Arlyn Schroeder, Jeff Smith, and David Kamerer, all of Monona, Iowa. Honorary pallbearers were Travis Schute, Westby, Wisconsin, Joel Schute, West Union, Iowa, Ryan Schute, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Timothy and Tom Pfile, Galena, Illinois. Robert Schute, Dubuque, Iowa read the scripture readings.

Phyllis was born May 24, 1911 in LaCrescent, Minnesota and attended school in LaCrescent and Clayton, Iowa. She was the daughter of George and Elsie (Luther) Yohe. She worked as a farm employee in the Garnavillo, Iowa area until 1929, when at the age of 18 she married Arnold H. Schute of Guttenberg, Iowa at St.Mary's Catholic Church in Guttenberg.

In 1956 they purchased the Hartwick farm near Monona, Iowa where she and her family were engaged in farming for 29 years. She also was a self-employed Stanley Home Products dealer for 26 years and a member of the Catholic Daughter of America.

Phyllis died suddenly at St.Mary's Hospital,Rochester, Minnesota on March 13, 1988 in her 76th year of life. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 20, 1985 and an infant son, Jerome; her parents, a sister Marcella and a brother, Virgil Yohe.

Surviving are three daughters: Patricia, Mrs. John Maertens and Marylouise, Mrs. Louis Marshall, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Geneva Kay Schute, Dubuque, Iowa; five sons, Arthur Schute, East Dubuque, Iowa, Loren Schute, Clarksville, Tennessee, Ronald Schute, West Union, Iowa, Dallas Schute, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Arnold D. Schute, Westby, Wisconsin; 24 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Irene, Mrs. Henry Freese, and Kay, Mrs. Kenneth Clefish, both of Garnavillo, Iowa; and 3 brothers, Morrell Yohe of Waterville, Iowa, Eugene Yohe of Waukon, Iowa, and Donald Yohe of Colfax, Iowa.
