Conrad J. Lovig died Thursday, March 10, 1988 at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Giard United Methodist Church, Giard, Iowa. Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiated. Burial was in the GiardCemetery, rural McGregor, Iowa. Masonic services were held Saturday March 12, 7:30 p.m. conducted by Brotherly Love Masonic Lodge of Postville, Iowa at Schultz Funeral Home, Monona, Iowa. Schultz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Dale Thompson, Jerry Tayek, Doug Bernhard, Richard Becker,, Maurice Meyer, and Greg Koether. Honorary pallbearers were Frederick Becker, Wesley Lange, Eddie Koether, Walter Blazek, Eugene Baade, and Kermit Klinge.

Conrad J. Lovig was born March 18, 1910 in Chester, Iowa, Howard County to Andrew and Ingeborg (Olson) Lovig. He was baptized March 22, 1910 in Tama County, Iowa and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottosen, Iowa on November 7, 1926 by Pastor S.O. Sande. He received his education in Humboldt County schools.

On March 10, 1936 Conrad married Gertrude Wickersheim at Edgewood, Iowa. The couple had 3 children. They farmed in Giard Township until moving into Giard in 1965. Conrad worked as a carpenter after moving into Giard. He designed and built the home the couple lived in. He served as chairman of Giard Methodist Church and administrative board and taught Sunday School there for 20 years. He was a leader of Giard Future Farmers 4-H club, a charter member of Monona Kiwanis Club, past Master of Clayton Lodge No. AF & AM Masonic Lodge, Postville, past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star and champion Clayton cornhusker in 1935 and 1937.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a daughter, Annette Colleen. Surviving is his wife, Gertrude; 2 daughters, Claudette Benz of Fremont, California and Suzanne Kaber of Lancaster, Wisconsin; 3 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Art of Fairbanks, Alaska and Jesse of Chicago, Illinois; 2 sisters, Bertha Togeas of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Gladys Lambert of Prescott Valley, Arizona.
