Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Daisy Elma (Nichols) Benzing was born September 10, 1903 in Oronoco Township, Olmsted County, Minnesota to Warren and Elvena (Wentland) Nichols. She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church in Oronoco and received her education in Rochester, Minnesota. She graduated from high school in 1920. On April 1, 1924 she married Kenneth Oran Benzing in Rochester, Minnesota. They moved to a farm near Giard, Iowa and in 1926 moved to Monona, Iowa. She worked at Hupfer's IGA grocery store for many years. Daisy was a member of Garden City Methodist Church.
Daisy died Monday, April 18, 1988 at Prairie Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Funeral services were held Wednesday April 20 at 11 a.m. at Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona, Iowa with the Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiating. Burial was in the Giard Cemetery, rural McGregor, Iowa. Schultz Funeral Home was in charge of services. Pallbearers were Ric Benzing, Randy Church, Dan Church, Doug Courtney, Neal Allsup, Maynard Winkler, and Todd Balekos.
Preceding her death were her husband Kenneth who died May 24, 1940; 2 brothers Lawrence and Art Nichols, 2 sisters, Sarah Holiday and Ella Schultz, and a grandson James Carlson Church.
Surviving are a son Kendall Benzing of Monona, Iowa, a daughter, Jeannine (Mrs. Woodrow Church) of Potosi, Wisconsin; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin Nichols of Zumbrota, Minnesota, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Newton Benzing of Monona, Iowa.
