L. N. WAITE

Livingston N. Waite was born on December 3rd, 1849, at Clifton Park, Saratoga County, New York. At the age of 7 years he came west with his parents to Iowa and for many years lived on the home farm at County Corners, north of Lamont.

On retiring from the farm Mr. Waite moved to Lamont where for over 25 years he has been a highly respected citizen.

He was a member of the Methodist church and for many years an active worker in the Sunday school as teacher in the men’s Bible Class. The service he rendered to his church and community may be forgotten, but the boys of years gone by, whom he befriended and entertained in his home, will never forget their benefactor. Advancing years and failing health compelled him to relinquish his many acts of service, but to the closing days of his life, his interest was in the church of his choice and for the welfare of the community where he had lived so many years.

The end came on Monday morning, February 29th, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Colton, who had him every care and attention during his last illness. He leaves to mourn his departure, two sisters, Mrs. E. H. Sargent and Mrs. George Benson, both of Strawberry Point, also a large number of nieces and nephews and a large circle of neighbors and friends. Three sisters preceded him in death. He lived to the age of 83 years, 2 months and 26 days. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. W. Atkins. During the services, a male quartette consisting of F.N. Bates, Henry Fowler, J.W. Atkins and C. D. Atkins sang the following hymns: “Going down the Valley,” “In the Garden,” and Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” accompanist, Mrs. John Ehler. Pall bearers were Milton Colton, Delso Burgett, Truman Jenney, Chas. Dopp, George Adams and A. G. Tyrrell. Interment was made in the cemetery at County Corners. Relatives from Strawberry Point, Oelwein and Arlington attended the funeral services.
