Funeral services for Mrs. Leola Duwe were held Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend T. M. Marks officiated. Joann Martins was the organist and special music was provided by Kim Schutte. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Leola Christine Sophia Duwe, daughter of Otto and Mary (Kregel) Meyer, was born October 18, 1907, near Guttenberg, Iowa. She died Saturday evening, March 6, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville after a brief illness. Leola had reached the age of 91 years, four months and 18 days.

She was baptized on November 24, 1907, and confirmed on March 20, 1921. She attended the Jolly Ridge School near her home in Clayton County.

On October 15, 1929, she was united in marriage with Roy Duwe at St. John Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. To this union two children were born. The couple farmed south of Postville until moving to Postville where her husband was in the implement business. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center on January 25, 1994.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Roy, on September 1, 1971, a son, LeRoy on August 23, 1982, three brothers, Clarence and Walter Meyer, an infant brother Albert and an infant sister, Amanda.

She is survived by her daughter, Inez (Carlyle) Kirkeberg of Monona, and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy and her husband, Ray Suckow of Postville, seven grandchildren: Barb Duwe, Joe (Jolene) Duwe, Sandy (Dennis) Koenig, Rick Kirkeberg (Marlene Kirkeberg), Renea (Robert) Huinker, Scott (Linda) Kirkeberg and Cindy (Stuart) Schultz, along with 15 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Florence (Alvin) Bierbaum of Garnavillo, Hazel Schlake and Marie Baltz both of Postville and four sisters-in-law, Malinda Meyer of Guttenberg, Clara Schroeder and Viola and Helen Duwe, all of Postville.

Leola was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA.

Casket bearers were Joe Duwe, Rick Kirkeberg, Scott Kirkeberg, Robert Huinker, Stuart Schultz and Dennis Koenig. Honorary casket bearers were Jack and Dellene Hager, Ron and Bunny Fox, Marvin and Juanita Mohs and Joan Moore and Percy Laue.
