Mrs. Daugs Funeral Held

Funeral services for Mrs. Albert Daugs, 88, were held last Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran church with Rev. R. C. Schlueter officiating.

The body lay in state at the church from 12:30 o'clock until the time of the services. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery.

Mrs. Daugs died at the Postville hospital, Thursday afternoon, April 7, at 12:20 o'clock. A number of weeks ago she fell, seemingly none the worse. She then spent several weeks in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Melcher, being afflicted with influenza. Sunday evening, April 8, having returned to her home, she fell from upstairs without fracturing a bone, but apparently suffering internal injuries. She was taken to the Postville hospital the next morning.

As Helena Johanna Wilhelmina Fredericka, she was born a daughter of Ludwig and Wilhelmina, nee Wolf, Schumacher at Watertown, Wis., Oct. 19, 1871. She was baptized by Rev. Strassen at Watertown, Wis. She was confirmed by Rev. A Denninger at Farmington, Wis. She attended the Watertown public schools.

She was married to Rev. Albert Daugs at Johnson Creek, Wis., Oct. 11, 1894, by Rev. J. Becker. Following their marriage, the Daugs lived in Preston, Iowa; Walters, Minn.; Glidden, Iowa; Harmony, Minn.; and since April, 1918, in Monona. In 1935 they moved on a farm north of Monona, where Rev. Daugs died Feb. 14, 1939, and where Mrs. Daugs had lived with her son, Palmer.

In the first parishes served by her husband, Mrs. Daugs had been church organist and helped in the Sunday school. At Monona she taught the beginners for many years. She had also been a member of the Ladies Aid Society, the Mission circle, and a member of the adult Bible class.

She excelled as a wife, mother, and grandmother, who loved her own and was truly happy when the family came together. Last summer she was honored at the diamond jubilee celebration of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran church in Monona.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Charles (Gertrude) Hass of Denver Colo., Mrs. Victor (Paula) Schneider of Elkader, Mrs. Christian (Ruth) Anderson and Mrs. Theodora Montgomery of Dubuque, and Mrs. Glenn (Helen) Melcher and Mrs. Carl (Charlotte) Melcher of Monona; four sons, Rev. Harold Daugs of Goodyear, Ariz., Gottfried of Denver, Colo., Frederick of Monona, and Palmer at home, 30 grandchildren, and 32 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Palmer, Frederick, Sr., Frederick, Jr., and Donald Daugs, Paul and Victor Schneider and Glen Melcher.

From Dorothy Schave's obituary collection. She hand dated it 1960 and also wrote "Gotten from a scrapbook in the Monona, Ia. library." Maybe it is a McGregor, Monona or Waukon paper?
