Services Held For Mrs. Joe Duwe
Services were conducted Thursday, March 9 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Paul Lutheran Church for Mrs. Joseph Duwe who died March 6 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated.
Elizabeth Christina Bareis Duwe, daughter of George Bareis and Eva Louise Engel, was born July 16, 1882, Grand Meadow township, Clayton County, Iowa.
She was baptized May 26, 1888 by the Rev. John Gass and confirmed March 26, 1899 by the Rev. Bockelmann. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a member of the Lutheran Church women for nearly 60 years.
On October 2, 1902 she was married to Joseph Duwe of Monona, and lived in the surrounding vicinity for 32 years, moving to Postville in 1934. They were the parents of five daughters and two sons.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two sons, Harvey and Roy, four brothers, John, Fred, Will and Henry Bareis, one sister, Caroline Knodt, and a grandson, Leo Schroeder.
Mrs. Duwe is survived by five daughters, Celia, Mrs. Harvey Engelhardt of Monona; Florence, Mrs. Charles Schutte, Jr. of Luana; Clara Schroeder; Helen and Viola; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
