Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Wilson Wilke were held Tuesday, August 15, 1989 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Charles Miller officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Monona, Iowa at a later date.
Wilson William Wilke, son of William and Bertha (Neverman) Wilke was born December 15, 1912 at Luana, Iowa. He died Friday night, August 11, 1989 in Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
He attended school at Dubuque. On September 21, 1949 he was married to Dorothy M. Miene at Waterloo, Iowa. Wilson served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He and his wife, Dorothy, have lived in the Postville area for over 40 years. He had been employed at the Postville Feed Mill for 23 years and also at the Hygrade Packing Plant for several years. Wilson was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and the American Legion.He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harlan Wilke and two sisters, Marcella Backhaus and Mardella Wilke.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy, a son Walter Wilke and his wife, Dianne of Lincoln, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Tammi Schmucker of Bremerton, Washington, Wendi Williams of Otoe,, Nebraska, and Kandi Wilke of Lincoln, Nebraska, one great-grandson, Justin Williams,and a sister, Mrs. Theodore (Pearl) Timmerman of Monona, Iowa.
