Keith Doerring

SP/4 Keith John Doerring, son of John and Helen (Miller) Doerring, was born in Luana, February 20, 1941. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran church, Luana, March 9, 1941 by the Rev. Paul W. Adix, and confirmed in the same faith and the same church April 11, 1954, by the Rev. L. W. Reuther. He attended the Luana schools, graduating from Luana high school in 1958. He was active in sports, music and other activities.

After graduation, he attended Luther college, Decorah, one year, and Upper Iowa University, Fayette, one year, and then was engaged in farming in the area until joining the United States Army in December of 1961. After a year of training in the States, he was sent overseas to Germany, where his tour of duty ended when he was returned to this country on May 22 of this year. He was in the service over 2½ years.

He passed away at Fitzsimmons General Hospital, Denver, Colorado, July 8, 1964. He attained the age of 23 years, four months and 18 days.

While in Luana, he was a Sunday School teacher, teaching the fifth grade class; and was active in Luther League and choir.

Left to mourn his passing are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Doerring; sisters Joanne (Mrs. Milt Kramer) of Manchester, Edythe (Mrs. Paul Scheidt) of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Nancy of Cedar Rapids and Sally of Cedar Falls; 2 brothers, Raymond of Luana and Robert of Fort Dodge; grandmother Mrs. Hilda Miller of Monona; uncles and aunts, four nieces, friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted Monday morning, July 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran church, Luana, by the Rev. Luther A. Meyer. Burial was in Luana Lutheran cemetery.
