Charles Doerring
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 8, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona for Charles H. Doerring, 85, who passed away February 5. The rites were in charge of Rev. R. C. Schlueter, pastor of St. Paul's. Burial was in St. Paul's cemetery at Monona.
Charley Henry Doerring, son of Joachim Doerring and Elizabeth, nee Raeusch, was born in Altkales, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, August 25, 1866.
His boyhood days were spent in the land of his birth. At the age of 17 he emigrated with his parents to America, where he made his home in Farmersburg. Not many years later the family moved on a farm near Luana, now occupied by Elmer Landt. Here he grew to manhood.
On February 9, 1891 he was united in marriage to Louise Schrader at Clayton Center, the Lord blessed this union with four sons and two daughters.
Following their marriage the Doerrings lived near Luana in Monona township for a year, then until 1915 in Marion township; until 1935 in Monona township and then for about 15 years up to the time of the death of Mrs. Doerring in January 1951 made Monona their home. In 1942 the Doerrings were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary among children and children's children.
Since the death of his wife the departed had been living with his daughter Esther, Mrs. Elmer Mohs, of Postville; with Amanda, Mrs. Fred Becker, of Luana; and with his son Ed Doerring of Luana. It was at the latter's home that the father died February 5, at the age of 85 years, five months and 11 days.
He leaves to mourn his departure: his four sons: Edward, Arno, Hubert and Lester, all of Luana; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Becker of Luana and Mrs. Elmer Mohs of Postville; 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; one bother, August of Kenosha, Wisconsin and one sister, Mrs. Anna Muller of Monona
He was preceded in death by his wife, one grandson, one sister, Minnie, Mrs. John Vogt, and one brother, William, who died January 7, 1952.
