Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Albert Frederick Weihs, 91, died Wednesday, October 18, 1989 at the Good Samaritan Center, Waukon, Iowa. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 21 at Martin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Olson conducting the 1 p.m. services. Burial was in the Strawberry Point Cemetery, Strawberry Point, Iowa. Casket bearers were Francis Hammel, Walter Hagen, Robert Dotseth, John Leschensky, Howard Dickson, and Carl Beall.
Al was born September 1, 1898 in Sabula, Iowa to Frederick and Caroline (Oelanshlager) Weihs. He attended Sabula Public Schools and graduated from Bayless Business College in Dubuque, Iowa. He married Floy Sauerbry on June 30, 1927 in Strawberry Point, Iowa. He was employed for several years by J.C.Penney Com. in Indiana and Iowa. They moved to Waukon in January 1941 when they opened Weihs' Shoe Store which they operated until 1969.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and was also a member of Waukon Lodge 154 AF & AM, receiving a 50 year pin in October 1977.
Surviving are a son, Gordon of Omaha, NB; two grandchildren, and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, who died June 17, 1989; two brothers, August and Emil and two sisters, Emma and Edith.
