Funeral Services Held For E. H. Dettman

Funeral services are being held this afternoon for Elmer H. Dettman, 57, who passed away Sunday after a period of declining health. Services are at 1:30 at the Schutte Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig is in charge of the rites. Burial will be in the Postville cemetery.

Elmer H. Dettman, son of Charles and Albertina Bothmer Dettman, was born February 3, 1894, at Garnavillo, and departed this life after a period of declining health on December 16, 1951, at Postville, aged 57 years, 10 months and 13 days.

Mr. Dettman was made a Christian through the sacrament of Holy Baptism in infancy and was received into active membership in St. Paul's congregation of Garnavillo, on April 12, 1908.

He was united in marriage with Gretchen Limbach of Garnavillo on November 9, 1916 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Garnavillo. To this union was born one son who survives the passing of his father.

Mr. Dettman spent his entire life as a resident of Northeast Iowa. From the time of his birth in 1894 until 1945 he lived at Garnavillo. In 1945 he moved to a farm one and a half miles south of Postville and this continued to be his home until death came to him.

Left to mourn his passing are his widow; one son, Harold, who assisted his father on the home farm; one grandson; six sisters: Mrs. Amelia Schmidt, Mrs. Eleanor Flagel, Mrs. Alta Cherne and Mrs. Dan Coffman, all of Garnavillo; Mrs. Hallie Brownson of Manchester; Mrs. Clara Roebken of Postville; two brothers: William Dettman of Monona and Walter Dettman of Luana; as well as other relatives and friends.

Mr. Dettman was preceded in death by his parents.
