Funeral services for Walter C. Dettman were held Oct. 29 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Dettman, the son of Charles and Albertina (Bothmer) Dettman, was born June 11, 1891 on a farm in Garnavillo Township, Clayton County. He died Oct. 25 at his home at the age of 91.
Dettman was baptized Aug. 30, 1891 and confirmed April 23, 1905. He received his education in the rural schools of Garnavillo Township.
On June 15, 1915 he married Martha Milewsky and they had two children, Dorothy and Norbert. In 1965 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and in 1971 their 56th.
From 1915 to 1944 they farmed at Garnavillo and on January 4, 1944 they moved to a farm at Luana. In October of 1967 they retired to their home in Luana.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Martha, who died July 8, 1971, two brothers Elmer and William, four sisters, Clara Roedken, Nora Flagel, Alta Cherne, Hallie Bronson.
Surviving him is his daughter, Mrs. Delos (Dorothy) Schroeder of Garnavillo, and his son Norbert of Luana and daughter-in-law, Mildred Dettman, Luana, six grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Amelia Schmidt of Guttenberg, Iowa and Rachel Coffman of Clarinda, Iowa.
