Funeral services for Luanne Hoskins were held Thursday, February 12, 1998, 11 a.m. at the Norway Lutheran Church, rural St.Olaf, Iowa. Rev. Marshall Hahn officiated. Organist was Corrine Landsgard and soloist was Vern Walter. Burial was in the Norway Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers were Robert Parkhurst, Dan Hanson, Lanny Scheffert, Bill Wencell, Nick Leonard, Blaine Stott, and Nathan Severson. Leonard Funeral Home of Elkader was in charge of arrangements.

Luanne Renee (Orvis) Hoskins, daughter of Richard and Karen (Drahn) Orvis, was born October 24, 1955 in Prairie du Chien, WI. She was baptized at Norway Lutheran Church, St.Olaf, IA and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church, Elkader, IA. She graduated from Central Community High School, Elkader, in 1973. She was Student Body President, excelling in speech, debate, band, cheerleading, and numerous other activities. In 1977 she was awarded her Bachelors degree in fashion merchandising. She went on to the University of Northern Iowa where she received her Masters Degree.

On August 13, 1977, she was united in marriage to Ernie Klatt at Norway Lutheran Church, St.Olaf. To this union a son Chad was born. She later married Larry Hoskins of Waterloo, IA on July 24, 1989. Luanne died on Sunday, February 8, 1998 in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of forty-two.

Luanne was very church oriented. She enjoyed cooking, volunteering, and helping others. She had a deep love for children and would have done anything to help put a smile on a sad child's face. Luanne's son, Chad meant more to her than anything else in the world. She was very devoted to him.

Following a tragic incident that took place at college, Luanne struggled for several years with an emotional illness. The illness caused her more and more pain over the years, and slowly kept her from doing many things that she enjoyed. The once young, beautiful, and intelligent Luanne became so involved with solving everyone else's problems, that she never took the time to solve her own. She will be missed dearly by all her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, paternal grandparents, Floyd and Grace Orvis, and maternal grandfather, Everett "Pete" Drahn.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Hoskins, Waterloo, IA; her son, Chad Klatt, Waterloo, IA; her mother, Karen Orvis, Elkader, IA; a brother, Dr. Brad Orvis and his wife Debra, Escalon, CA; a sister, Brenda Rodas and her husband Chuck, Strawberry Point, IA; a step-daughter, Gina Wencell and her husband Bill, Owatonna, MN, and by her maternal grandmother, Myrtle Drahn, Waukon, IA.
