Funeral services for Oscar Torkelson were held Monday, November 11, 1985 at 11:00 a.m. at the Norway Lutheran Church in St.Olaf. The Rev. Keith Klemm officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Oscar Torkelson, son of Ole and Ingeborg (Olson) Torkelson, was born November 24, 1892 in Highland Township, Clayton County, Iowa. He died at his home in Farmersburg, Iowa on Friday November 8, 1985. He attended the local rural school. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed at the Highland Lutheran Church.

On February 15, 1917 he was married to Nellie Olson at the Lutheran Church Parsonage in Clermont, Iowa. They are the parents of four children. They farmed two miles west of Farmersburg until 1945 when they moved to their present home in Farmersburg. Oscar owned and operated the Torkelson Lumber Mill from 1945 until about 8 years ago.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nellie in 1983; a daughter, Opal (Mrs. Willard Houg) in June 1985; a great grandson, Greg Bente; five brothers, William, Oliver, Tom, Otto, and Clarence; three sisters, Alma (Mrs. Herman Schoien), Rosina (Mrs. George Landsgard) and Caspara (Mrs. Elmer Benson) and a brother and sister in infancy.

Surviving are a son, Quentin and his wife, Ruby; two daughters, Minerva (Mrs. Lloyd Leonard) Sycamore, IL, and Iva (Mrs. Lee Klinkenberg), McGregor; a son-in-law, Millard Houg, 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl and a sister, Ida Larson , both of Elgin.

He was a member of the Norway Lutheran Church. Casket bearers were Randy Houg, Stanley Houg, Roger Torkelson,Rodney Torkelson, Mark Leonard and Kevin Leonard.
