Mrs. Doeppke Funeral Held

Funeral services for Mrs. Albert Doeppke, 69, of Farmersburg were held Thursday afternoon, April 23, at Zion Lutheran church in Clayton Center with Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiating.

Burial was in the Clayton Center cemetery.

Mrs. Doeppke had been in ill health since the latter part of 1963. She died Monday afternoon, April 20, at 5 o'clock at Central Community hospital in Elkader. Her family and pastor were at her bedside at the time of her passing.

As Frieda Christine, she was born the daughter of Carl and Emilie (Gruening) Funk, Feb. 2, 1895, in Read township. She was baptized May 23, 1895 by Rev. F. W. Seifertand and was confirmed by Rev. J. Burkhard on April 4, 1909.

She was married to Albert Doeppke, Feb. 26, 1918, with Rev. F. Athenstadt performing the ceremony in the home of her parents.

For 23 years the Doeppkes farmed in Read township, after which they farmed for 11 years in Farmersburg township. In 1958 upon retiring from the farm they moved to Farmersburg.

Mrs. Doeppke was a life member of Zion Lutheran church at Clayton Center.

Preceding her in death were her father, who died Sept. 1, 1940, her mother April 19, 1942, two brothers, Charles and William, and two brothers in infancy.

Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. John (Dorothy) Bossard and Mrs. Clarence (Ellen) Zurcher of Farmersburg and Mrs. Glenn (Florence) Bente of Postville; a son, Gerald of Elkader; four sisters, Mrs. Gerdt (Amelia) Gerdes and Mrs. Minnie Hamilton of Dubuque, Mrs. Emil (Lena) Gossman of Elkader, and Mrs. Harold (Pauline) Leib of Clayton Center; two brothers, Ben and August Funk of Elkader; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were John, Don and Ronald Bossard, George Elting, Glenn Bente, and Carl Funk. Two bearers of honor were Robert Bossard and Robert Zurcher.
