Dorothy Edith Meyer

Dorothy Edith Meyer, 85, surrounded by her family, died Tuesday evening, April 8, 2003 at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, following a brief illness. She was born November 20, 1917 in Farmersburg to Oscar and Amanda (Klasen) Henkes. She graduated from Farmersburg High School.

She was united in marriage to Robert Meyer on July 10, 1951 in Dubuque. Dorothy lived her life for her family. She enjoyed cooking and music. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ladies Veterans Auxiliary and Royal Neighbors.

Survivors include her children, Verdine (Sue) Houg, Postville, Brent Meyer (friend Patty Hilton), Cedar Rapids, Tyrone (Karie) Meyer, Marion, Robin (Alan) Katschkowsky, St. Olaf, Kent (Michelle) Meyer, Cedar Rapids and Doris (Don) Carsner, Marion; eighteen grandchildren, Courtney Meyer, Nicole, Jessie and Tara Carsner, Abby Katschkowsky, Sara, Mallory, Kirsten, Caleb, Casey, Shane, Doug, Chad, Denny, Daniel and Michael Meyer, Jermey Houg and Jared Vogt; three great-grandchildren, Nathan, Corey and Hailey Meyer and a brother, Donald Henkes, Monona.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1991, two sons, Doug Houg and Allen Meyer and a brother, Kermit Henkes.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2003 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Elkader, with Rev. Paul Peters celebrating. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Church Cemetery, Elkader. Leonard Funeral Home of Elkader was in charge of arrangements.
