STRIEN, HENRY WILLIAM FREDERICH "FRED"
Funeral services for Henry William Frederich Strien,77,were held Saturday morning, June 21, 1969, at 10:30 o'clock at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa with Rev. R.E. Langholz and Rev. Fred F. Darnauer officiating. The body lay in state at the church from 9:30 o'clock in the morning until the time of the services. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery.
Mr. Strien became ill in April and had been in the hospital a great deal of the time since. He died Thursday morning, June 19, 1969 at the Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin hospital. He was born a son of Charles and Alvina, nee Radloff, Strien, February 13, 1892 in Dawson County, near Gothenburg, Nebraska. He was baptized there in infancy. His parents moved to a farm near Farmersburg, Iowa when he was a child. He attended school at Farmersburg. He was confirmed at St.John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg, March 24, 1907,when Rev. Gerhardt Weiss was pastor.
He was married to Elsie Heiden in 1914. One daughter, Mrs.Delbert (Lillian) Jenkins of Marquette, Iowa was born to this marriage. Elsie Strien died in 1918. He was married to Mary Mista, June 10, 1920, at Monona, Iowa. They farmed near Farmersburg for about 15 years after which they moved to Monona. Here Mr. Strien worked as a livestock buyer until 1956 when he retired. He served on the board of the St.Olaf Creamery and was a member of St.Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Monona.
Surviving are his wife, Mary, a daughter, Mrs. Delbert (Lillian) Jenkins of Marquette; three sisters, Mrs. Louis (Minnie) Kurdelmeyer of Harmony, Minnesota, Mrs. Louis (Alice) Breitsprecher and Mrs. James (Marie) Probert of Farmersburg; two brothers, Herbert of Farmersburg and Carl of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Fred and Lynn Jenkins; also nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Elsie; two sisters, Alvina, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Eldo (Lana) Kurdelmeier; and one brother Carl, who died in infancy.
Music at the services was provided by Mrs. Roger Halvorson,soloist and the congregation singing one song. Mrs. George Heins was the organist. Pallbearers were A.D. Whittle, Robert Melcher, Lowell Fox, Harvey Gruber, Robert Kurdelmeyer, Walter Drahn, Harland Kutzbach, and Marvin Mohs.
