ROSS, HANNA DEA WILSON

Hanna Dea Wilson Ross, daughter of Parma (Olmsted) Wilson and Henry Wilson, was born at Monona, Iowa on May 9, 1886 and lived here until she graduated from high school in 1904. For several years she was employed with the 'Monona Leader' newspaper. She was a member of the Congregational Church in Monona for years. Later she was affiliated with the Pilgrim Evangelical Church and continued her helpfulness in a musical way. She was also a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and served as organist a good many years in that chapter.

In 1910 she attended the Chicago Musical College to further her musical education. During the summers of 1910, 1911, and 1912, she was a musician at a resort at Long Lake, near Fenton and Flint, Michigan where she had the pleasure of playing with Roberta Bernays, a niece of John Philip Sousa.

On May 19, 1914, she was married to Robert Dufferin Ross of Chicago, at St.James Episcopal Church with Rev. Stone performing the ceremony. They lived in Chicago until 1931, when her mother became ill. Hanna came to Monona to help in caring for her until she passed away in December of that year. She remained in Monona to care for her father until he passed away on May 4, 1939, which was his birthday. A little later, Mr. Ross returned from the Great Western Railway and they have since made their home in Monona, occupying the parental Wilson home just north of Monona until May 1, 1964 when they sold the old home and moved to 310 North Page Street, Monona.

Hanna died at the hospital in Prairie du Chien on Thursday, October 23,1969 at the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 14 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother Hardy Wilson, who passed away September 26, 1967 after a brief illness.

She leaves to mourn, a number of cousins, and a nephew, David Wilson of Corpus Christi, Texas. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 26 at 2:30 at the Pilgrim United Methodist Church with John Wesley Petersen, pastor, officiating. She was buried in the Monona City Cemetery, Monona, Iowa
