Life Sketch of Harold Landsgard

Harold Landsgard was born Dec. 15, 1868, in Marion township, Clayton county, and died at his home in Clermont, March 8, at the age of sixty-eight years. He was baptized Jan. 17, 1889, and confirmed Oct. 19, 1902, at the Marion Lutheran Church of which he was a life-time member.

He was the second oldest child of Esten and Sarah Landsgard. He spent most of his life in this vicinity. As a young man he conducted a store in St. Olaf, leaving that to join the Armed Forces in Wold War I. After the war he returned to the store keeping businesss, this time in Gunder.

On Aug. 23, 1919, he was united in marriage to Helen Nelson, who preceded him in death more than two years ago. To this union was born one daughter, Doris Lorraine.

Most of Mr. Landsgard's life was spent in merchandising and farming. For the past twenty years he had been retired. He was an active member of Sheehan-Olson Post American Legion, and participated whole heartedly in many community projects.

Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Robert Howard, of Sycamore, Ill., tow brothers, George and Arthur, of this community, and a sister, Mrs. Oscar Lindley, of Osage, also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 11, at the Schutte funeral home in Postville and at the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, with the Rev. Bruce Boyce officiating. Pall bearers were Bernard Tollifson, Donald Hauge, Emory Landsgard, Orlando Lindley, Orlando Landsgard and Gordon Landsgard, all nephews.
