Obituary of Mrs. H.E. Landsgard
Helen Nelson Landsgard was born Jan. 6, 1893, in Marion township, Clayton county, and passed away at the Decorah hospital on Aug. 1, at the age of sixty-one years. She was the youngest daughter of Gunild and Berner Nelson.
Mrs. Landsgard was baptized and confirmed at the Marion Lutheran church and spent most of her life in this vicinity. After receiving her education in the rural schools, Elgin High School, Waldorf college and Upper Iowa University, she spent seven years teaching in Iowa schools.
On Aug. 23, 1919, Helen Nelson and Harold Landsgard were united in marriage at the Marion church. To this union one daughter, Doris, was born.
Mrs. Landsgard was an active and willing member of the church societies and participated wholeheartedly in many community projects.
Surviving are her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Robert Howard, of DeKalb, Ill., two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Wold of St. Olaf, and Mrs. Josie Tollefson, Decorah, also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Aug. 5, at the Schutte funeral parlor and at the Marion Lutheran church at Gunder, with the Rev. S.B. Knudsen officiating. Burial was in the Marion church cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews, Orland Landsgard, Orlando Lindly, Ole Landsgard, Berdette Wold, Emory Landsgard and Bernard Tollefson.
