Alfred Merwin Buraas

Services were held Wednesday, Dec. 24 at 1:30 p.m. for Alfred Buraas at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville with the Rev. Conrad Simonson officiating. Mr. Buraas passed away of a heart attack on Monday, Dec. 22.

Alfred Merwin Buraas, son of Herman and Rachel (Aanes) Buraas, was born on a farm in Marion Township, Clayton County, April 4, 1898. He was educated in the rural schools of Clayton County.

On June 28, 1923, he was united in marriage to Norma Thoen of Kensett. To this union was born 3 daughters: Fern (Mrs. LaMont Gericke) of Decorah; DeElta (Mrs. Don Heins) of Postville and Shirley (Mrs. James Blume) of Madison, Wisconsin.

Mrs. Norma (Thoen) Buraas passed away. Mr. Buraas was married to Mrs. Delphina Mitchell of Postville, Jan. 17, 1954. Most of his life was spent in farming. He worked as a carpenter and in the feed and seed corn business after moving to Postville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Gilbert and his first wife Norma. He is survived by his wife Delphina, his 3 daughters, a step-son Clifton Mitchell of Alburnett; a step-daughter, Mrs. Allen Sims of Orlando, Florida and his grandchildren.

Burial was in the East Clermont Cemetery of rural Postville.
