Funeral services for Elwin Drahn, 38,were held last Thursday afternoon at 1:45 o'clock at the Schultz Funeral Home with committal at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery Monona, Iowa, followed by memorial services at St.Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church with the Rev. R.C. Schlueter officiating.
Mr. Drahn died Tuesday morning Oct. 3, 1944. He was born at Froelich, August 26, 1906, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred G. Drahn. He attended school in Giard township and was graduated from Monona High School after which he attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, Iowa.
He was married at Monona, July 28, 1926 to Ethel Merritt of McGregor, Iowa by the Rev. A. Daugs. He operated the Grand Cafe for three years and then worked in the Minnesota State Highway commission office at St.Paul, Minnesota for five years. He then returned to Monona and for the last ten years has been an employee in the Union Farmers creamery, serving six years as secretary and the last four years as buttermaker.
He was a member of the Monona Fire department, of the Brotherhood of St.Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church serving as treasurer for a year and of the Monona Commercial Club, being elected secretary this fall.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by three sons, Ronald, Gene, and Richard, his parents, five brothers, Walter, Erwin, Glendor, and Everett of Monona, and Lloyd who is serving in France. Five sisters, Mrs. Clarence Henkes and Mrs. Clarence Nugent of McGregor, Sophia of Monona, Eileen of Seattle, Wash. and Aloha of Chicago, Ill.
Pallbearers were: Harold Moon, Jack Goltz, Kermit Klinge, Alfred Fett, Edward Cordes, and Clark Reideisel.
Those from out of town attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Henkes, Mrs. Clarence Nugent, Mrs. Emma Merritt, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Merritt and family of McGregor; Miss Aloha Drahn of Chicago, Ill; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nockels of St. Paul, Minn; Mr. and Mrs. John Kinsley of Madison, Wis; Mr. and Mrs. William Merritt of Waterloo; and Mr. and Mrs. Jack McGhee of Milwaukee, Wis.
