Elizabeth Esther Smith, the daughter of Melvin and Esther (Olmsted) Davis, was born April 15,1880 at Monona, Iowa. She received her education at Monona High School, Carleton and Simmons Colleges, and entered the Massachusetts General Hospital Training School for Nurses in Boston and the Morgan Lying in Hospital in New York City, graduation in the class of 1907. She was Superintendent of the Home Hospital at LaFayette, Indiana, when in 1917, she was married to Horace H. Smith. She entered the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa on October 19, 1970. She died there Wednesday March 24, 1982 having reached the age of 101 years, 11 months, 9 days.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Horace H. Smith, step-daughter Gretchen Smith Perry, step-son Leslie H. Smith, her sisters, Flora and Angeline Davis, her brothers Frank Olmsted Davis and his wife. She is survived by her niece Marg Davis Bock and husband Fay, their three daughters, Karen, Lorna, Roxane, three sons, Kenneth, Robert, Donald of Allen, Nebraska, her step-sons Dr. J.D. Smith, Las Vegas, Nevada, and three step-grandchildren, Jeanne, Leslie and Martha Perry.
Funeral services were held at the Garden City United Methodist "white" Church (Transcriber's note: This meant it was the old, white framed Methodist church. A newer church for Garden City had been built but not certain of the construction date. Rev. Carroll Brown officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Eldred Schlitter, Arlan Schroeder, Harlan Hass, Lloyd Drahn, and Philip Olmsted. Burial was at the Monona City Cemetery and the Schultz Funeral Home handled the funeral arrangements.

Not a relative: card was part of misc.papers belonging to my mother.
Note: If I am not mistaken, Elizabeth Smith donated her house to the Monona Historical Society perhaps in the 1970"s. I might be wrong.
