Joseph Hurley, 66, of rural Volga died Wednesday, June 17, 1981 at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday June 20, 1981 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Volga with burial in the church cemetery, (Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Volga, Iowa). Friends may call after 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Witt Funeral Home in Elkader, Iowa where the rosary will be said at 8 p.m.

Surviving are his wife, the former Alice Seybert; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Nancy) Freilinger of Marion, Iowa and Mrs. Dwight (Mary) Freitag of Elkader; three sons, James of Maynard, Iowa, John of Wichita, Kan., and Kenneth of Volga; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. There are three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Irene) Smith of Fort Atkinson, Wis; Mrs. Myrtle Eischeid of Waterloo, and Mrs. Hazel Handburg of Minnesota.
