Verda Mae Moon
Verda Mae Moon was born Oct. 31, 1911 at Elkader to Alvin and Alvina Gossman Breitsprecher. She was baptized Jan. 21, 1912 by Johannes Burkhard in Elkader. She lived her early life in Elkader. Later she moved with her family to Luana. She joined the Methodist Church at an early age.
On June 6, 1929 she was married to Floyd Moon at the Pilgrim Evangelical Church in Monona, the Rev. R. W. Berg officiating. The couple had two sons. They farmed all their married life. She was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church and the Sarah Circle.
Verda died at her home in Monona on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1992. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Floyd, who died August 8, 1964; an infant sister and a son, Ronald.
Survivors include one son, Keith and his wife, Mary of Rochester, Minn; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Moon of Harlan, Iowa; five grandchildren, Todd, Jeff, Troy and Bart Moon and Jill Powers; five great grandchildren; one sister, Avis Connell of McGregor and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 25, 1992 at 11 a.m. at the Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona, Rev. Gary Dobbins officiating. Organist was Ric Benzing. Pallbearers were Rick Connell, Dwayne Moon, Vernice Moon Harry Moon, Terry Moon and Harold Vogt. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements.
