Lona Caroline Embretson, daughter of Ernest and Mary (Kahle) Fuelling, was born August 6, 1906 in Farmersburg Township. She died Sunday, March 10, 1996 at the Care Center in Elkader. She was 89 years old.
She was baptized September 29, 1906 in Farmersburg by Rev. Benhardt Weiss, and confirmed November 2, 1919 by Rev. G. F. Braun, also in Farmersburg. She graduated from Farmersburg High School.
Lona was united in marriage to Orvin Embretson on May 25, 1956 at St. John's Lutheran Church. The couple lived in St. Olaf. Lona was a homemaker and a cook at the Farmersburg School. She belonged to the Legion Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Orvin, who died February 21, 1966; five brothers, Louis, Edward, William, Benhardt and Milo; three sisters, Hilda, Elsie and her twin sister, Laura.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Elvera Fuelling of Guttenberg and Adelia Engelhardt of St. Olaf; nieces and nephews; a cousin, Amelda Madden of Garnavillo; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 12, 1996 at Norway Lutheran Church in St. Olaf with Pastor Marshall Hahn officiating. Pall bearers were Roger Fuelling, Burnell Fuelling, John Fuelling, Dennis Duwe, Harlan Thurn and Robert Hilgerson. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements. Burial was at Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, rural Farmersburg.
