---------Hommel, Charlotte J. (25 DEC 1854 – 28 JUN 1903) ^

Charlotte J. Hommel, wife of J.W. Hommel, died at their home in this city (Neillsville, Clark County), Sunday night, June 28, 1903. For several years her health had been very poor and for the past month it was apparent that she was rapidly growing worse in spite of all that medical skill and the best of care could do for her.

Deceased was born at Plymouth, Sheboygan County, Wis., Dec. 25, 1854, being the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Steele. At the age of fifteen she came with her parents to Clark County, the family settling in the town of Warner, where they resided many years. May 19, 1872, she was married to J.W. Hommel and has lived in Neillsville ever since. She leaves her husband, two grown up daughters and adopted son, her father, five sisters and three brothers.

During her long illness she has been the object of the tenderest care on the part of husband and daughters, and Placido, the little boy who returned from Puerto Rico with Maj. Hommel and was adopted into the family, gave her the affection of a son. The family and relatives have the sympathy of all who know them.

Mrs. Hommel was refined and ladylike in manner and patient in her long sickness, and when in health, helpful to all about her.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the family home, Rev. G.W. Longenecker officiating. The beautiful floral offerings and number who assembled to do final honor to her memory testified to esteem in which she was held.
