Services for Frederick Patrick Stendel, 60, were held Thursday. March 2, 1978, at Zion Lutheran Church at Clayton Center. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Rev. J. H. Zerhusen, pastor, officiated.
Stendel died Saturday, February 25, 1978. at Victorvllle Valley Hospital, Victorville, Calif. He had suffered a severe heart attack about two months ago.
His home has been in Apple Valley, Calif., where he had been an employee of the Apple Valley Water Corporation.
A son of William and Pearl Shaw Stendel, Fred was born July 29, 1918 In the Pony Hollow area of Read Township in Clayton County, Iowa. He attended the local school. On November 19, 1938 he was married to Ilene M. Radloff at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader.
A mechanic, he worked for an Implement firm in EIkader and operated a filling station in St. Olaf before moving to Apple Valley, Calif., in January 1970.
Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Steven of Marion, Iowa; one grandchild, Jill; one sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Bonita) Keleher, Elkader; and his mother, Pearl Stendel, Cedar Rapids.
Stendel was baptized at Peace Church in Elkader by the Rev. C. H. Franke on September 28, 1918. He was a member of VFW and Lemka-Stendel Legion Post and honored with a military funeral.
Pallbearers were: Wm. Boland, Roger Keleher, James Voss, Wilfred Shaw, Paul Doeppke and Floyd Schroeder.
