Funeral services for Mrs. Paul Haverland were held Friday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church in Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center with the Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiating. Burial was in the new Clayton Center cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roy Kottman, Ray Kottman, Sylvester Lotza, Arno Heuer, Reuben Glawe and Freddie Lahrs.
Leona Katharein Vogt Haverland, daughter of Friedrich and Lena Vullgraf Vogt, was born April 29, 1895, in Read Township, Clayton County, Iowa, and died Monday, Feb. 19, 1962, at the Central Community Hospital, Elkader. Mrs. Haverland had been in ill health for the past four years.
She received her education in the rural school in Read Township. She was baptized by the Rev. F. W. Seifert Oct. 8, 1893, and confirmed April 9, 1906 by the Rev. F. Linnenberger at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, of which she was a member at the time of her death.
She was married to Paul J. Haverland Feb. 8, 1912, at the Vogt home in Clayton Center. After their marriage, the Haverlands farmed in Read Township for 37 years, retiring to the present residence in Elkader, Iowa, in 1949.
Mrs. Haverland was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Mrs. George (Linda) Kelpien and Mrs. Ed (Ida) Glawe, and a half-sister, Marian Vogt.
