Loftsgard Services Held In Gunder

Funeral services for Orven G. Loftsgard of rural Elgin were held Sat., Dec. 30, 1978 at 1:30 p.m. at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, IA. Rev. Keith Klemm officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Marion Cemetery.

Orven G. Loftsgard, son of Theodore T. and Julia C. (Olson) Loftsgard, was born Nov. 1, 1926 on the family farm in Marion Township, near Elgin, IA. He passed away Dec. 28, 1978 at Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wis. at the age of 52 years.

He was baptized and confirmed at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. His education was at the Center School, Marion Township.

June 7, 1951 he was married to Sylvia Guyer at the West Clermont Lutheran Church. To this union five children were born. They farmed on the family farm which was homesteaded in the 1800's by the Loftsgard family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Millard.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; a son, Bradley of Elgin; a daughter-in-law, Gail; four daughters: Jane Ann and Lisa of Cedar Rapids; and Mary and Sara at home; one granddaughter, Sherry Lynn Loftsgard; a sister: Mrs. Keith (Jenetta) Brainard of Postville; and a foster sister, Mrs. Leslie (Emma) Lantz of Elkader.

Orven was a member of the Marion Lutheran Church where he served as a Trustee. He was very interested in soil conservation. He was a 1974 State Soil Conservation winner.
