LAHRS, FRED W. 1876-1948

Funeral services for Fred W. Lahrs, 71, were held from the Witt funeral chapel at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Jan. 8, to the Zion Lutheran church in Clayton Center at 1:30. The Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiated. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Lahrs died at his home in Read township Monday, Jan. 5, following an eight years" illness of diabetes. Fred William Lahrs was born in Read township, July 1, 1876, the son of Christian and Friederike Kruse Lahrs. He received his education in the rural school near his home.

He was married to Ella Vogt in Read township on Nov. 23, 1904. They started housekeeping on the farm where he was born and where he continued to live until his death. Early in life he was baptized and christened by the Rev. F. Seifert. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran church in Clayton Center. He is survived by his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Lahrs; one brother, John Lahrs, and one sister, Mrs. Carrie Hiens, both of St. Olaf. A daughter, Irma, preceded him in death at the age of six months. Pallbearers were: George Kahlbaum, Jack Connel, Edwin Hoth, Arthur Huckstadt, Harvey Hue Her, and Edwin Glawe.
