Funeral services for Ella Sophia Vogt Lahrs, 89, were held at Zion Lutheran Church at Clayton Center Saturday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 a.m. Burial was in the new Clayton Center Cemetery. The Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiated. Mrs. Lahrs died at her home in Read Township Wednesday evening, Oct. 6. She had been ill but about a week. A daughter of Fritz and Lina Vullgraf Vogt, she was born on January 27, 1882, in Read Township. She attended the rural school of her community. She was baptized on July 2, 1882 and was confirmed on March 29, 1896, in Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center by the Rev. F. W. Seifert.
She was married to Fred Lahrs at the home of her parents on November 23, 1904, with Rev. Fritz Braun officiating. After her marriage the couple farmed in Read Township until the husband’s death in 1948. Following her husband's death, she lived for a time with her son and daughter-in-law. Then she moved to Elkader to live with her sister, Mrs. Paul Haverland. Later she lived in Guttenberg and lately had been staying with her son in Read Township. She is survived by her son, Freddie, Elkader; a brother, Arthur, Elkader, and a half-sister, Mrs. Theodore (Lillian) Glawe, Elkader. Preceding her, beside her husband, were an infant daughter, Irma; three sisters, Mrs. George (Linda) Kelpien; Mrs. Paul (Leona) Haverland; Mrs. Louis (Adele) Radloff, Mrs. Ed (Ina) Glawe; a brother, Fred and a half-sister, Miriam (sic). Casket bearers at her late rites were: Reuben Glawe, Edwin Kaike, Ervin Taake, Melvin Breitsprecher, Eldo Wilke, Floyd Schroeder.
