Rites Held For Emma Loftsgard

Funeral services for Emma J. Loftsgard were held Wednesday, Jan. 19, 1983 at 1:30 p.m. at the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder. The Reverend Keith Klemm officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Emma Josephine Loftsgard, daughter of Hans and Martine (Johnson) Amundson, was born April 20, 1890 in Marion Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She passed away Jan. 16, 1983 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville, at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 26 days.

She was baptized by the Reverend Kjorstad and confirmed by the Reverend Dreyer, both at the East Clermont Lutheran Church. She attended the rural schools of Clayton County.

On June 24, 1916 she was united in marriage with Theodore L. Loftsgard. To this union three children were born. In 1918 they purchased the farm in Marion Township where she had lived until three years ago when she went to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Mervin and Lillian.

She is preceded in death by her husband who died March 26, 1968, a son-in-law, Kenneth, in 1967, four brothers, Adolph, Henry, Ole and Louis, and a sister, Mrs. Ole (Gunda) Gisleson.

Surviving are a son, Marion Loftsgard of Elgin, two daughters, Mrs. Mervin (Lillian) Reierson of Clermont and Mrs. Edna Anderson of Postville, 3 grandchildren, Curtis Anderson, Paulina, Iowa, Bruce Anderson, Postville, Karla Schrader, Luana, six great grandchildren, Stephanie, Richard, Kari, Christopher and Aaron Anderson, and Brant Schrader, 2 foster granddaughters, Rose Luckeroth, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Ruth Luckeroth Stickley, Grundy Center, a brother, Martin Amundson, Clermont and a sister, Louise Vick, who resides at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville.

She was a member of the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder.
