Charles F. Landt, son of Karl and Wilhelmina Radloff Landt, was born in Clayton County, Iowa, near Garnavillo, July 20, 1881. He was baptized in the Lutheran church in Garnavillo. He was confirmed into the Lutheran faith April 7, 1895, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona. He received his schooling in the local schools there.
He was married to Augusta Dahlstrom March 10, 1908, in Clayton Center, Iowa. For the first three years after their marriage, they rented a farm south of Luana. Then they purchased the farm which they owned to this date and continued to farm there until about 23 years ago, when they retired and moved to Luana.
In March, 1958, they observed their golden wedding anniversary, and their 55th, two years ago. Mr. Landt was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana, and the Men's Brotherhood.
Mr. Landt had been ill off and on for about two years, he had received treatment for his illness at the Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, also. He entered the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville, December 26, where he passed away March 3, 1964. He attained the age of 82 years, seven months and 12 days.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter, who died in infancy; a son, Elmer; two brothers, Fred of Postville and Herman of Luana.
He is survived by one son, Harvey, Luana; two brothers, Wm. F. Landt, Luana, and Harry Landt, Postville; three sisters, Mrs. George Kluss, Monona, Mrs. Frieda Cox, Milwaukee, Mrs. Minnie Livingood, Postville, Mrs. Ida Heins, Luana; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, March 5, 1964 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana, by Rev. Luther A. Meyer. Burial was in the Luana Lutheran Cemetery.
