Funeral services for El Donna Looby were held Friday, January 3, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church at Farmersburg, Iowa, with the Reverend Bruce Hanson officiating. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Gooding Cemetery, rural Luana, Iowa. Casket bearers were grandsons, Jason, Cody and Bobby King and Justin, Lucas, Collin and Brandon Looby and Anthony Schroeder. Honorary casket bearers were granddaughters, Jessica, Miranda, Krystal, Chasity, Ashley and Erica Looby and Anissa Schroeder.

El Donna Lee Looby, the daughter of Eldon Freddie and Ella Henrietta Anna (Koopman) Kurth was born November 26, 1933, on a farm near Gunder, Iowa. She passed away Saturday, December 28, 2002, at her home near Farmersburg, Iowa. She had reached the age of 69 years, one month and two days.

She was baptized and confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church at Farmersburg, Iowa. El Donna attended the Farmersburg School.

On October 8, 1952 El Donna was married to Lyle V. Looby in St. John Lutheran Church at Farmersburg by the Reverend Steege. To this union six children were born. They farmed in Wagner Township near Luana for 24 years. In 1976 they moved to a farm near Farmersburg.

El Donna enjoyed her family, liked to bake and was especially known for her homemade bread. Her hobby was collecting salt and pepper shakers, embroidering and she had a great love for animals, especially her cats.

She is survived by her six children, Randy (Nancy) Looby of Dalhart, TX, Terry (Barb) Looby of Calmar, Iowa, Rick (Sheri Henderson) Looby of Amarillo, TX, Lanny (Cindy Reynolds) Looby of Canyon, TX, Sherry (Arnold) King, Jr. of West Union, IA and Tammy (Willie) Jones of Waterloo, IA; 15 grandchildren, Jason and Cody King, Justin, Lucas, and Jessica Looby, and Miranda Looby, Krystal and Collin Looby, Chasity Looby, Bobby King, Brandon and Ashley Looby, Anissa and Anthony Schroeder, and Erica Looby; and 2 great granddaughters, Emily Hammond and Kylie Pedroso; 6 sisters, Dorothy (Joe) Becker of Lansing, IA, Gale (Jack) Bissell of Monona, IA, Marlene (Roland) Doerring of Garnavillo, IA, LaVon (Walter) Germann of Postville, IA, Elaine (Jim) Doerring of McGregor, IA and Marilyn Hackett of Prairie du Chien, WI and one brother, Eldon (Linda) Kurth of Postville.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyle who died September 13, 2001, her mother and father-in-law Charles and Althea Looby, and a brother-in-law, Herb Hackett.

El Donna was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Women of ELCA.
