William Fred Luepker, son of William and Katherin Nelkorn Luepker, was born at Thief River Falls, Minnesota, April 4, 1916. He was baptized when a small child at the Lutheran Church at Fulda, Minnesota, at which town he also received his education. He moved with his parents to the Garnavillo, Iowa, area, where he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in St. Peter's Lutheran Church there by Rev. Bunge.
He was married to Frances Erb November 27, 1935 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana. The couple farmed in the Farmersburg, Postville and Luana areas. In 1955 they moved to Luana where they had charge of a grocery store for three years. After this, they retired.
Mr. Luepker served his community on the school board and in the fire department; and his church on the church council.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Frances; two sons, LaVern of Moline, Illinois and LeRoy of Lowden; one grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Wilhelmina Iverson, of Los Angeles, California. His parents and one sister, Louise, preceded him in death. He passed away January 11, 1964 at his home early in the morning. He had been ill from heart trouble for some time, his last illness lasting for about a month. He attained the age of 47 years, nine months, and seven days.
The funeral service was conducted from St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana, Tuesday afternoon, January 14, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Luther A. Meyer in charge. Burial was in the Luana Lutheran cemetery.
