Useful and Active Life of Giles M. Porter Ends.

Rev. Giles M. Porter, whose death occurred yesterday at his home in this city, was a son of Rev. Noah Porter, D. D., for more than sixty years pastor of the Congregational church at Farmington, Conn. One of his brothers was Noah Porter, president of Yale university from
1871 to 1886. His sister, Sarah, who died within the past year, maintained the famous girls' school at Farmington. Another brother, Samuel, has long been one of the faculty of the National Deaf Mute college, Washington. D. C. Two sisters yet raised at the old homestead in Farmington.

Mr. Porter was born April 2, 1815, graduated from Yale in 1837, taught for some years in Connecticut and Ohio, then entered the ministry. After two pastorates in Conecticut and a term of exhausting labor as one of the editors of the New York Observer, failing health drove him to the west.

In 1857 he bought land in Garnavillo, near McGregor, lowa, where he lived for thirty years, a successful farmer, and for a time the beloved pastor of the village church. Twelve years since he sold his farm and came here to spend his remaining days.

His wife, who survives him, was Sarah Jennings of New York city. Three daughters and two sons were born to them and all are to-day with the stricken mother; Mrs. L.J. Adair
of Iowa, Mrs. Daniel Fish this city, Judge Samuel Porter, Willmar; Robert L. Porter, auditor of ticket accounts, C, B. & Q. Railway system, Chicago, and Annie M., the youngest daughter, unmarried.

The funeral will take place at the family residence, 2929 Colfax avenue S, Monday at 10:30 a. m. Interment at Lakewood.
