Funeral services for Chad Alan Farmer, 19, were held Saturday, July 24, 1993, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Elkader. Rev. Thomas W. Rhomberg officiated the service with burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Elkader. Honorary pallbearers were Dan Larson, Clem Messerli, Brian Erickson, Shawn Peterman, Thomas Nolan, Chris Waterman and Travis Farmer. Pallbearers were Joseph M. Tibbott, Wesley L. Hall, Dale J. Steen, Daniel R. Olson, Jr., James G. Bodensteiner and Shad M. Lonergan.
Chad Alan Farmer was born May 30, 1974, at the Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Manchester, the son of John H. Farmer and Barbara (Hook) Nurre. He grew up in Elkader and graduated from Central Community School in 1992. While in high school he participated in football, wrestling, was class president three years and student Boyd president one year. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being with friends in his spare time and collected farm machinery as a hobby. Currently he was working at Atwood Industries in West Union. He was a member of the Company B 1st Battalion 133rd Infantry National Guard unit out of Oelwein for the last two years.
Chad Farmer died Wednesday, July 21, 1993, near Elkader of injuries sustained following an auto accident.
Survivors include his parents; one sister, Sherri Farmer of Strawberry Point; and a half-brother, Dustin Nurre of Greeley; grandparents William and Dorothy Farmer of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Russell Hook of Greeley; and a nephew, Derek Nolan of Strawberry Point.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elsie Hook.

Funeral services for two young victims of a tragic car accident Wednesday, July 21, were held this past week.
Services for 17-year-old Tammy Christeleit were held Sunday in the Central High School gymnasium.
Services for 19-year-old Chad Farmer were held Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
The two-vehicle accident which claimed the lives of the two young people, both recent graduates of Central High School, occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 21.
According to the Iowa Highway Patrol, the vehicle driven by Chad Farmer was eastbound on county road C2W about two miles southwest of Elkader. His vehicle crossed the center line and struck the vehicle driven by Tammy Christeleit. Both were killed in the crash.
