Mrs. Henry Gruel Funeral Services

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Gruel, 84, were held Wednesday morning, June 30, at 10:30 o'clock at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran church with Rev. R. E. Langholz officiating. Burial was in the Farmersburg and Wagner cemetery.

Mrs. Gruel died Monday, June 28, at Memorial hospital in Prairie du Chien.

As Lena, she was born the daughter of John and Friedericke (Glaw) Drews, Feb. 26, 1887 in Garnavillo township, Clayton county. She was baptized May 28, 1887, at St. Peter Lutheran church in Garnavillo when Rev. Somerlad was pastor and was confirmed at St. John Lutheran church in Farmersburg, March 31, 1901. She attended the elementary school at Farmersburg.

She was married to Henry Gruel of Farmersburg, Feb. 20, 1908. They farmed in the Monona, Farmersburg area. Mr. Gruel died in 1952. In 1960 she moved to Monona, living with her son, Floyd, until 1969. In April of that year, she moved to the Carriage house in McGregor, where she continued to live until the time of her death.

She was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran church in Monona and a member of Peace circle of the Women of the Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, two daughters who died in infancy, one in 1911 and the other in 1913, and three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Bertha) Harnack, Mrs. John (Rika) Engelhardt, and Mrs. William (Anna) Gruel.

Honorary pallbearers were Eilmer H. Lenth, Harry Schievelbein, Louis Breitsprecher, Herbert H. Lenth, Harvey Debes, Edward Bush, and Hurbert Lenth. Active casket bearers were Eugene B. Miller, Virgil Kurth, Dayton Marfilius, Calvin Henkes, Lindall Schievelbein, and Herb Zurcher.
