Dean Joseph Forsythe, 67, died suddenly Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. He was born to Russell and Dorthea (Quinlan) Forsythe April 14, 1942, in Fort Dodge, IA.
Dean was united in marriage to Janet Kirby on September 21, 1963. Four children were born to this union. Dean worked a variety of jobs including M&JR Hakes in Laurens. Dean and his family moved to Elkader in 1980, and opened Forsythe Ford.
He later worked at NAPA & Featherlite logistic - mainly with Championship Auto Racing which allowed him to travel extensively throughout the U.S., England, Japan and Mexico.
Dean and Janet were members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elkader. Dean was a District Deputy with the Knights of Columbus and he was a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights.
Dean was an avid businessman and an enthusiastic retiree. He truly enjoyed his retirement, golfing, fishing, wintering in Florence, AZ; however, his greatest treasure was spoiling his twin granddaughters.
Dean is survived by his wife Janet, of Elkader; his sons Donald Forsythe and his wife Lisa of El Mirage, AZ, Todd Forsythe and his wife Melissa of Cedar Rapids,; his daughter Kathleen Hoth and her husband Jim and their children Branden and friend Jessica, Jamie, Katelyn and Morgan of Marion, IA; sister Ann (Joe) Pfarr of Delmar, DE and brother-in-law Gar Stover of Glendale, AZ.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Shelley and his sister Gail Stover.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday morning, June 3, 2009, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elkader with Rev. Paul R. Peters as Celebrant. Interment at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Elkader.
Music was provided by Darlene Dittner, organist, and Linda Gardner, soloist.
Honorary bearers included Thor Fisko, Pat Keleher, Gerald Kramer, and John Kittleson.
Casket bearers were Ken Hoeger, Carl Hakert, Harley Reichert, Ron Schuety, Pat Fitzgerald, and Jim Brink.
