Funeral mass was said for Norbert Gerner Monday, June 20 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clermont. Celebrant was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Norbert B. Gerner, son of Lawrence and Elizabeth (Kelly) Gerner, was born April 12, 1905 near Guttenberg, Iowa. He died Thursday, June 16, 1988 in Memorial Hospital at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

He attended St. Mary's School at Guttenberg. On August 26, 1930 he married Marie Kreul at Richland Center, Wisconsin. The couple had 3 children. They lived at Janesville, Wisconsin and then moved to Clermont in 1936. They operated Gerner's Cafe there for 36 years.

After Marie's death, Norbert married Bertha Jensen in 1973. They lived in Waterloo and then moved to their present home in Independence, Iowa.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marie, who died in 1961 and 15 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Bertha of Independence, a son, Donald of Aurora, CO, 2 daughters, Helen Skelton of Clermont and Joan (Michael) Joyce of Denver, CO, a step-daughter, Mrs. Ephram (Pat) Miller of Independence, 8 grandchildren, 3 step-grandsons and two great-grandsons.

Norbert was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clermont. He had also been a member of the Clermont Volunteer Fire Department and the Commercial Club.

Casketbearers were Jeffry Miller, Bill Rosenbaum, Donald Joyce, Dennis Rear, Tony Moreland and Steve Horan.
