Mrs. JOHN (Golda Marie Knickerbocker) GEBHARDT 1912-1978

Funeral services for Mrs. John Gebhardt were held in Giard United Methodist Church, southwest of McGregor, Iowa, at 2 p.m. June 1, 1978, with the Rev. Misses T. Janet Surdam and Luella G. Koether officiating. Burial was in Giard Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Alto Rodas, Conrad Lovig, Phil Olmsted, Maurice Meyer, Irvin Becker, Arthur Harnack.

Golda Marie Gebhardt was born Feb. 18, 1912 in Colesburg, Iowa, and died at her home in Giard May 29, 1978, after many weeks in and out of the hospital at LaCrosse with heart trouble.

Golda was the fifth child of Hiram and Harriet Mae (Hoisington) Knickerbocker. She went to Colesburg Consolidated School until she moved with her family into Allamakee County when she was about fourteen, and then to Giard. On February 13, 1930, she was married to John Christian Gebhardt at the Methodist parsonage in McGregor, and they farmed most of their lives in Giard where their two children - William John and Dorothea Mae - were born.

Mrs. Gebhardt leaves to mourn her passing her husband, John, and son, William, at home; her daughter Mrs. Jim (Dorothea) Bowermaster of West Des Moines; 3 grandchildren, Karen, Mark and Kurt Bowermaster; 4 brothers, Harold of Giard, Fred and Alvin of Froelich and Leo of Monona; 2 sisters, Mrs. Lester (Ruth) Krugger and Mrs. Walter (Alvina) Bachtell of McGregor; many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Preceding her in death were 2 brothers, Clarence and Lester and 2 sisters, Flossie and Mary Margaret.
