Funeral services for Russell E. Garms, 56, were held Saturday, September 19, 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, with The Rev. Gene Kramer officiating. Interment was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of services.
He died September 15 at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids.
Russell Eugene Garms was born July 25, 1931, in Monona, Iowa, to parents Robert and Harriet (Russell) Garms. He was baptized September 21, 1931 and confirmed June 9, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. He received his education in the Monona school.
Russell worked as a buttermaker at creameries in the Maryville and Arlington area. He spent the last 23 years working for Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, Fraternal Order of Eagles and a member of the A.F.L.- C.I.O. Local 110.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one son, James.
Surviving are two son, John of Elkader and William of Marion; five grandchildren: Tim, Rebecca, Michael, Jamie and Jenna; one brother, Robert of Dubuque; two sisters, Gloria Looney of Postville and Joanne Peterson of Waterloo.
Casket bearers were Brad Peterson, Tom Looney, Robert Rechsteiner, Dan Garms, Box Coxs and Larry Venenga.
