Funeral services for Harriet S. Garms were held Thursday, January 29, 1987 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville with Rev. Julius Peterson officiating. Pallbearers were Mrs. Garms' grandchildren, Thomas Looney, Daniel Garms, William Garms, John Garms, Bradley Peterson and Robert Rechsteiner. Interment was in the Monona City cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of the services.

Harriet S. Garms was born June 23, 1901 to parents Charles and Nettie (Vaughn) Russell in rural Allamakee County, Iowa. She spent her youth in the Luana area and attended Hardin and Luana area and attended Hardin and Luana Schools.

Harriet was united in marriage to Robert W. Garms on December 11, 1923 in the Lutheran parsonage in Monona. They were the parents of two sons and two daughters. The couple lived in Monona until 1950 and then moved to Volga. Harriet remained in Volga until 1981. She became a resident of Postville Good Samaritan Center in 1982.

Harriet was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Volga. She died Jan. 27, 1987 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, following a short illness.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert, who died December 7, 1980, two brothers, Arthur and Ora Davis, and two grandchildren, Mark and James Garms.

Surviving are two sons, Robert of Dubuque and Russell of Cedar Rapids, two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Gloria) Looney of Postville and Mrs. Russell (Joanne) Peterson of Waterloo, 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and one sister, Myrtle Eilers of Marquette, Iowa.
