Mrs. R. Garms Funeral Services
Funeral services for Mrs. Rudolph Garms, 79, were held Friday morning, July 25, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran church with Rev. R. E. Langholz and Rev. Fred F. Darnauer officiating. The body lay in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran cemetery.
Mrs. Garms became ill Tuesday morning, July 22, and was taken to the Postville hospital, where she died later that morning from a heart attack.
As Louise, she was born the daughter of John and Katherine (Tuecke) Schroeder, June 25, 1890, in Monona township. She was baptized shortly after her birth at St. Paul Lutheran church in Postville, and was confirmed March 27, 1904, at St. John Lutheran church in Farmersburg when Rev. C. Braun was pastor. She attended the rural school of her home community.
She was married to Rudolph Garms Jan. 29, 1913. They went to farming south of Monona, where they lived for 35 years, retiring to Monona in 1948.
Mrs. Garms was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran church. She served as president of the Ladies Aid society and held various offices in her circle. She was also active in township extension work for many years.
Preceding her in death were her husband, who died Oct. 21, 1966; two sisters, Katherine Schroeder and Mrs. Minnie Lembke; and two brothers, Henry and Rudolph.
Surviving are her sons, LaVerne of Monona who is president of the Clayton County Farm Bureau, and Robert of Rochelle, Illinois; three sisters, Mrs. O. H. (Ann) Wirkler, Mrs. John (Alma) Luepker, and Mrs. Walter (Christine) Duwe of Monona, and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Alvin Baumbach, Steve Parker, Harva Miller, Lloyd Drahn, Arthur Mohrman and Duane Lamker.
