Connie Mae (Stoeffler) Esser, 60, of Guttenberg, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals with her family by her side.

Visitation was Monday at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church. Funeral services were Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries. Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Connie was born the daughter of Donald and Ivanelle (Gassman) Stoeffler on Dec. 31, 1948, in Guttenberg. Connie graduated from St. Mary’s High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Mt. Mercy College. On May 28, 1973, she was united in marriage with Jerome “Matt” Esser at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg. They were later blessed with one son, Terry. Connie was a merchant store owner and the operator of Connie’s Apparel for over 35 years. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, St. Anne’s Society, Civic and Commerce Club as well as an officer of the board of directors. Connie taught at St. Mary’s School before she was married. She was a lector at church and also played the organ. Connie enjoyed bowling, knitting, sewing and working with crafts.

Connie will be remembered by her husband, Jerome "Matt" Esser; one son, Terry Esser of Marion; her mother, Ivanelle Stoeffler of Guttenberg; two sisters, Suzette (Gerald) Bower and Ivy (Brian) Heins, both of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald, and three brothers in infancy.
