Michael Thomas “Tree” Hefel, 53, of Sherrill, passed away Monday evening, Dec. 28, 2009, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Visitation was Sunday at Behr's Funeral Home, Dubuque and one hour before services at the church. Funeral services were Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Buena Vista. Burial was at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Tree was born on Aug. 13, 1956, in Guttenberg, son of Gerald J. and Marjorie F. (Moser) Hefel. He graduated from Leo High School in Holy Cross. Farming, trucking and family were Tree’s life. Tree worked for 16 years at Link’s Trucking. He drove all over the country from coast to coast. When he was not trucking, he was on the family farm near North Buena Vista, where he spent most of his life farming with his dad. Tree was a member of the Midnight Riders Motorcycle Club and was a proud owner of a ‘74 Shovel Head HD. He was lucky enough to take a fishing trip up to Canada in 2006 with his dad and son, a trip they all truly cherished. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish. Papa was loved by all of his grandchildren.

Survivors include his mother, Marjorie Hefel, of Sherrill; his only son, Jason (Reta) Hefel, of Otter Creek, and their children, Jason II, Parker, Preston and Elizabeth Hefel; his longtime love, Lynn Bries, of Dubuque; Lynn’s family, Tara (Todd) McDonald and their children, Mallory and Kaitlyn, Jodi (Tom) Stricker, Scott Bries and his daughter, Lili; his brothers and sisters, Penny Hefel, of Fairplay, Wis., Ron Hefel, of Sherrill, Dede (Rich) Dalsing, of Potosi, Wis., Kathy (Glen) Burkle, of Waverly, Ken Hefel, of Sherrill; nieces and nephews, Anthony Beitzel, Maggie and Gunther Williams, Blake, Megan, Clayton and Garrett Burkle and Elizabeth Bamrick.
