Bittner, John Alvin 1930-2009

John Alvin Bittner, 79, of Guttenberg, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at his home following a short illness.

Visitation was Monday at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church. Funeral services were Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg. Rev. Marvin Bries conducted. Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

John was born the son of John D. and Ella (Heins) Bittner, Sept. 17, 1930, near Guttenberg. John received his education locally and farmed with his family for many years. On Oct. 24, 1964, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Fortmann at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville.

John enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and watching westerns.

Those left to cherish his memory, his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Lisa (Robert) Kies of Colesburg and Angela (Nick) Ryan of Dubuque; four sons, Jeffrey (Karen Moose) Bittner of Garnavillo, David Bittner of Garnavillo, Daniel (Jessica) Bittner of Guttenberg, and Jason (Lynette Pritchard) Bittner of Guttenberg; one sister, Irene Becker of Guttenberg; five grandchildren, Jessica, Danielle, Travis, Justin, Caleb and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ida Miller and one brother, Lyle Bittner.
